Jaat Privacy Policy (Summary)

Effective February 2026

This summary explains how Jaat collects and uses information when you browse, buy, or sell phones, electronics, and beauty products on our marketplace.

What we collect

  • Account data: name, email, phone, and profile details.
  • Orders & messages: items, shipping details, buyer/seller communications, status.
  • Payments: confirmations and transaction IDs. Payment details are handled by processors (e.g., M-Pesa partners) and not stored by us.
  • Seller/shop data: shop profile, listings, payouts, and verification info when required.
  • Device/usage data: IP, device/browser info, logs, cookies, and similar tech.
  • Location (optional): if you enable it to see nearby sellers or delivery options.

How we use it

  • Run the marketplace (accounts, listings, orders, customer support).
  • Process payments/refunds and resolve disputes.
  • Prevent fraud, secure the platform, and meet legal obligations.
  • Offer location-aware features when enabled.
  • Improve features and user experience.

Sharing & disclosure

  • With buyers/sellers as needed to complete orders.
  • With payment processors to complete transactions.
  • With service providers (hosting, analytics, support) under contract.
  • With regulators or law enforcement when required by law.

Cookies & tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for core functionality, remembering preferences, analytics, and improving the experience. Control cookies via your browser settings.

Retention & security

Data is retained as needed to provide services, comply with law, and prevent fraud. We use appropriate safeguards, but no system is 100% secure—use strong credentials and keep them safe.

Using Jaat

  • By using our marketplace, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
  • You must be legally able to contract and keep your account details accurate and secure.
  • OTP or other verification may be required to protect your account.

Marketplace roles

  • Jaat connects buyers and sellers. The sale contract is between them.
  • Sellers must list lawful, authentic products (especially phones, electronics, and beauty items), describe them accurately, and fulfill orders on time.
  • Buyers should review listings, shipping/returns, and ask questions before purchase.

Payments, payouts, fees, taxes

  • Payments are processed by third-party providers (e.g., M-Pesa partners); their terms apply.
  • Payouts may be delayed or held for fraud checks, disputes, or policy issues.
  • Marketplace fees/commissions are disclosed in your dashboard; you are responsible for applicable taxes.

Listings & conduct

  • No illegal, counterfeit, stolen, or infringing items. IMEI/serials must be valid and untampered for phones/electronics.
  • No misleading claims for beauty/personal care; follow local labeling rules.
  • No harassment, spam, malware, or attempts to bypass on-platform payments.

Reviews & community

  • Reviews must be honest and tied to real transactions; no manipulation or retaliation.
  • Forum and messages must follow our behavioural and seller-forum guidelines.

Disputes & issues

  • Buyers and sellers should try to resolve issues directly. Jaat may step in at our discretion.
  • We may remove content, pause listings, or suspend accounts for policy or legal violations.

Liability & termination

  • Services are provided "as is" to the extent allowed by law. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
  • Accounts may be suspended or terminated for breaches; you can close your account (some data may be retained for legal/fraud reasons).

Jaat Seller Forum Guidelines

The forum exists for knowledge sharing, peer support, and marketplace updates. Keep it respectful and focused on growing your phone, electronics, and beauty business.

Conduct

  • Be respectful and professional; no harassment, hate speech, or sharing private information.
  • Stay on-topic and use the right categories; avoid spam or excessive self-promotion.
  • No promotion of prohibited or counterfeit items. Keep payments and negotiations on-platform.
  • Share accurate information; do not impersonate staff or post confidential support messages.

Moderation

  • Moderators may edit/remove posts or suspend forum access for violations.
  • Report issues instead of self-moderating.

  • Use a clear shop name, logo, and short story that builds trust with Kenyan buyers.
  • Publish shipping, returns, and warranty details for phones, electronics, and beauty items.

List with confidence

  • Upload bright, high-resolution photos (front/back/ports/IMEI sticker for devices; ingredients/expiry for beauty).
  • Write accurate titles and specs; include model numbers, storage/RAM, network status (unlocked/dual-SIM), and authenticity details.
  • Price fairly and keep stock levels updated to avoid cancellations.

Deliver great service

  • Respond quickly to questions; keep communication on-platform.
  • Ship on time with protective packaging; share tracking promptly.
  • Handle returns or issues quickly to protect your ratings.

Grow smart

  • Watch reviews and analytics to learn what sells (trending phones, accessories, small appliances, beauty essentials).
  • Use promotions responsibly and never offer off-platform payments.

Checkout safely

  • Pay through Jaat with secure options (M-Pesa); avoid off-platform requests.
  • Confirm your delivery address and contact details.

After you order

  • Track shipments; message the seller on-platform for questions.
  • If something is wrong, contact the seller first. Open a case if unresolved.
  • Leave honest reviews focused on the product and service.

Stay safe

  • Use strong passwords and ignore phishing attempts.
  • Report suspicious activity or counterfeit listings to support.

Respect & integrity

  • Be courteous; no harassment, hate speech, or sharing private info.

Security

  • Keep your account secure; report suspected compromise immediately.
  • No malware, scraping, or attempts to disrupt the platform.

Content & reviews

  • Reviews must be fair, honest, and based on real transactions.

Jaat Prohibited & Restricted Items

Violations can lead to content removal or account action.

Strictly prohibited

  • Counterfeit or replica goods, including fake phones/electronics or beauty products.
  • Stolen property or devices with tampered/blacklisted IMEI or serial numbers.
  • Illegal drugs, weapons, explosives, or hazardous materials not allowed for shipment.
  • Personal data/government IDs; adult content that violates local law.

Restricted (require compliance)

  • Unlocked or used phones/electronics must be genuine, accurately described, and legally sourced.
  • Beauty/cosmetics must be authentic, safe for use, and meet labeling rules.
  • Medical devices/supplements and food/perishables must follow applicable regulations.

Reporting

Report suspected violations. External payment processors may also block non-compliant transactions under their own rules.

Jaat Behavioural Policy

These standards apply to all interactions on Jaat (site, apps, messages, and forums).

Do

  • Communicate respectfully and professionally.
  • Provide accurate information about products and orders.
  • Keep payments and negotiations on-platform.

Don't

  • No harassment, hate speech, threats, or doxxing.
  • No spam, off-platform solicitation, or review manipulation.
  • No IP infringement, counterfeit items, or technical abuse (malware, scraping, disruption).

Enforcement

We may warn, remove content, suspend, or terminate accounts. Report issues via support instead of self-moderating.

Fees & Marketplace Commissions

Current fees are shown in your seller dashboard. Key points:

Marketplace fees

  • Listing and promotion fees may apply by category/duration.
  • A commission is taken on completed orders (item price plus shipping and any listed charges).

Payments & payouts

  • Payment processing is handled by third-party providers (e.g., M-Pesa partners) and may include their own transaction fees.
  • Payouts can be delayed or held for fraud checks, disputes, or policy issues.

Taxes & currency

  • Fees are typically shown exclusive of VAT or similar taxes; you are responsible for applicable taxes on your sales.
  • If currency conversion applies, prevailing rates and processor margins may be used.
