Fees & Payments Policy

This page explains how payments work on Jaat as a county digital mall network. The platform supports two modes: shops and businesses can collect buyer payments directly, while eligible orders can use Jaat Protected checkout where Jaat collects first and releases funds after completion.

1) Shop Collects Payment

This is the default payment mode for normal shops and businesses. The buyer pays the shop or business directly through the payment option agreed with that space owner.

  • Shop M-Pesa till or paybill.
  • Cash on delivery.
  • Pay on pickup.
  • Bank transfer.
  • WhatsApp or manual agreement.

Jaat does not hold the buyer's order money in this mode. The shop or business is responsible for payment confirmation, fulfillment, and first-line customer support.

2) Jaat Protected Payments

Protected checkout is optional and available only for eligible verified or premium spaces. The buyer pays Jaat first. Jaat records the payment, holds the order funds, and releases money to the shop after the order is completed or resolved.

  • Commission and payment processing fees may be deducted before payout.
  • Delivery fees may be included where a protected delivery flow is used.
  • Refunds, disputes, payout holds, and support checks apply.

3) Jaat income

Jaat earns like a mall owner. We collect platform fees from shops and businesses, not every buyer order payment by default.

  • Monthly digital space rent.
  • Featured county or category placement.
  • Verification fees.
  • Ads, premium tools, and analytics.
  • Protected checkout commission only where protected payments are used.

4) Rent and promotion fees

Digital space rent, ads, verification, and promotion fees are paid to Jaat through approved payment channels such as M-Pesa. Product listings are included with an active shop. Check your seller dashboard for current rates and billing periods.

5) Payment processors

Third-party processors (e.g., M-Pesa providers) may charge additional fees or require verification. Refer to your provider's documentation for details.

6) Taxes & currency

Fees may be shown exclusive of VAT or similar taxes. Currency conversions, where applicable, use prevailing rates and may include processor margins.
