Online Marketplace Checklist for Kenyan Avocado and Coffee Suppliers

Online marketplaces make it easier to discover agricultural suppliers, but a listing is only the start of supplier due diligence. Buyers sourcing Kenyan avocados or coffee should move from marketplace discovery to a documented commercial review before making a payment or confirming a shipment.

Check the supplier identity

Confirm the legal business name, physical location, responsible contacts and the name that will appear on commercial documents. Compare those details across the marketplace profile, quotation, invoice and payment instructions. A sudden request to pay a different person or entity should be investigated.

Request a complete product specification

For avocados, define variety, maturity, count, grade, packaging and delivery window. For coffee, define origin, grade, processing method, crop period, moisture expectations, sample approval and required documents. Quotations cannot be compared properly when suppliers are pricing different specifications.

  • destination country and delivery point;
  • requested volume and order frequency;
  • quality and tolerance requirements;
  • packaging, labelling and traceability;
  • Incoterm, payment terms and logistics responsibilities;
  • inspection, rejection and claims procedure.

Verify evidence outside the marketplace

Ask for current, transaction-relevant documents and verify important claims independently. Photos, certificates and references should match the supplier and the proposed programme. Buyers should also confirm destination requirements with their own customs, food-safety and logistics advisers.

For a practical example of supplier questions, use the Afrisun Orchards guide to avocado exporters in Kenya. It outlines the variety, packing, traceability and quotation information importers should clarify when building a shortlist.

Start with a controlled transaction

Where practical, begin with samples, a trial order or another controlled step that allows both parties to confirm communication, quality and documentation. Keep marketplace messages, specifications, approvals and payment records together. Good marketplace buying combines convenient discovery with disciplined verification.
